Diacrítica is the official journal of the Center for Humanistic Studies of the University of Minho – CEHUM and, for the past three decades, it has been a nationally and internationally renowned periodical for the diffusion of high-quality academic studies in the field of the Humanities.
Established in 1986 by the founder and first director of CEHUM, Prof. Vítor Aguiar e Silva, Diacrítica was an annual publication until 2011, and the first 16 issues were published within this model.
After the publication of issue number 17 (2003), the journal underwent two major editorial changes: its graphic image was altered and the periodical was divided into three distinct volumes - Diacrítica-Linguistics (17.1), Diacrítica-Philosophy (17.2) and Diacrítica-Literature (17.3). This transformation aimed at creating more homogeneous editorial standards in scientific articles, without compromising the cross-sectional and inter-disciplinary nature of research in the Human Sciences, which has always been a guiding principle for CEHUM.
Since the publication of issue number 24.1 (2010), Diacrítica has adopted the double-blind-peer-review system and has been indexed in SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online). Its classification in the 2013-2016 period was Qualis A1.
Scientifically committed to being a nationally and internationally renowned periodical in the field of the Humanities, in 2017 Diacrítica became a quarterly online publication, through the Open Journal System (OJS).
Issues in Diacrítica are now thematic. Nevertheless, the journal accepts the submission of non-thematic papers, which are to be published in the section Varia. Diacrítica also publishes interviews and critical reviews provided that they meet the thematic and quality parameters set by the editors.
Diacrítica follows APA publication guidelines.
Diacrítica is funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia/FCT).
