Abstract: Can we positively appreciate an environment we know to be damaged by human activity or exploitation? Many environmental aestheticians consider this is not possible. Knowledge of that damaged or altered state impedes positive aesthetic appreciation. In my presentation, I will examine whether some of the arguments in favor of this negative answer are sound and I will defend the possibility of appreciating damaged environments in a way that is not utterly negative.
