Target Audience: Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students, as well as researchers conducting fieldwork in the social and human sciences.
Description: This workshop offers an introduction to linear mixed effects models—also known as multilevel or hierarchical models—with a focus on applying them in your own research or studies. Emphasis is placed on practical skills and key concepts, using applied examples and real datasets.
By the end of the course, participants will have:
A conceptual understanding of what mixed effects models are and when to use them;
Hands-on experience fitting and interpreting mixed effects models using the lme4 package in R;
Prerequisites:
Although aimed at a non-specialist audience, participants are expected to have:
A solid understanding of core statistical concepts, especially linear modeling
A working knowledge of R and RStudio
Access to their own computer with a stable internet connection throughout the workshop
An up-to-date installation of R and RStudio prior to the course
