Workshop
Description: The Child Language Data Exchange System (CHILDES) is a widely used database for studying child language acquisition. CHAT is its standardized transcription format, and CLAN is the accompanying software used to analyze these transcripts. CLAN allows users to compute linguistic and clinical measures, analyze fluency, and perform grammatical tagging in multiple languages.
This workshop will introduce participants to the CHAT transcription format and CLAN analysis tools, with a focus on:
Transcribing and linking transcripts to audio/video files
Running automated analyses of language and fluency data
Computing linguistic measures (e.g., MLU, TTR), analyzing disfluency, and tagging/analyzing data in multiple languages
Target Audience: This workshop is ideal for researchers and clinicians working with child language data. No prior knowledge of CHILDES is required.
Requirements: Participants must use their own computers and have an up-to-date installation of CHAT/CLAN prior to the workshop.
Registration: Registration is free but required, and space is limited to 25 participants. Click here to register
