Abstract submission

Each participant may submit up to two abstracts, which must not exceed 300 words nor five keywords, in one of the working languages of the conference (Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian and English). It is recommended that you follow APA guidelines, structuring the text as follows: identification of the topic, objective, methodology (sample, instrument and procedure), results and conclusion. In the abstract all sections should be presented in a concise manner, especially the Results section. If your study does not have an empirical basis, the abstract should have the structure of a theoretical study: identifying the theoretical approach or model and linking current and past results.

Until July 31, 2018 participants will be notified of the decision regarding acceptance of their abstract and whether it was accepted for the intended type of presentation or whether any changes have been suggested.

Paper submission

Upon notification of acceptance, participants should submit their full paper(s) to techLING2018@autonoma.pt within the stipulated deadline (see Important Dates). Accepted papers will be published regardless of presentation type.

• Track 1 and track 3 papers will be published in a Digital Humanities journal. Papers must be in Portuguese, English, French, Spanish or Italian;

• Track 2 papers will be published in indexed journal Diacrítica. Papers must be in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish;

• Track 4 papers will be published in indexed journal PSIQUE. Papers must be in Portuguese, English French or Spanish;

Participants should submit an original, well-organized paper with a solid theoretical background, observing the guidelines of the journal to which they wish to submit their paper(s). The guidelines of the relevant journals will be announced in this section in due course.

Organization of the sessions

Each participant should ensure oral or written presentation of their paper(s), according to the time slot scheduled in the program. Presentations should not exceed 15 minutes for papers and 5 minutes for posters. There will be a moderator for each table and there will be a period of discussion at the end of the presentations, for every session. The norms will be stated clearly at the beginning of each session.

Participants should bring their PowerPoint presentations to upload to the computers that will be in the conference rooms for each session. The organization of the PowerPoint presentation is entirely up to the speakers.

Welcome to techLING+

techLING+ is a training session primarily aimed at primary and secondary school teachers. It aims to support and promote innovative pedagogical approaches to ICT. It will include three workshops taught by trainers specialized in active methodologies, namely project-based learning (PBL). The workshops are organized in a coherent way so that trainees can design, develop and publish a collaborative project with emerging open source technologies. The skills acquired during this training space will enable teachers to build innovative learning scenarios that make the student an effective actor in their learning process. All participants will receive support in developing projects within virtual learning environments. Thus, techLING+ is also a forum for innovative educational projects.

The three workshops are as follows:

W1: mind-mapping tools

W2: collaborative writing tools

W3: multimodal content creation tools

–> Tutorial support

–> Brief presentation of final project

Please note that all techLING+ activities will be in Portuguese.

This training session is accredited for the following teaching groups: 200, 210, 220, 300, 310, 320, 330, 340, 350. Accreditation requires that trainees attend not only the workshops and other activities included in techLING+ but also track 2 of the techLING conference, on language teaching. Final quantitative assessment will be expressed on a scale of one to ten points according to article 4 of Ministerial Order no. 4595/2015 of 6/5/2015.

Important dates

September 15, 2018: submission of application form

July 15-September 30, 2018: notification of acceptance

August 1-September 30, 2018: registration

November 30, 2018: text submission (only applies to proponents of good practice projects)

October 4, 2018: techLING+ training session

Submission of proposals

Candidates who wish to attend techLING+ will have to register through the online registration form.

In addition to submitting the application for attendance of techLING+, candidates may also submit a proposal for a good practice project using the same registration form. We welcome proposals in Portuguese, English, Spanish or French. It should be a project that they have already implemented in their work context or a proposal for an idea that they would like to implement and discuss. Proposals should focus on educational technology applied to language teaching and literature. To do this, participants must fill in the following fields in the online registration form:

Project title

Target audience

Institution(s) involved

Short description (max 150 words)

Used Tool(s)

3 to 5 keywords

Submission of texts

Proponents of good practice projects may submit a text for publication in Portuguese, English, Spanish or French, which must not exceed 3000 words. The template for the elaboration of the text and the formatting guidelines will be announced in this section in due course. Depending on the number of texts submitted, we will issue a pedagogical publication, possibly endorsed by the Portuguese Ministry of Education and/or the European Commission.

Organization of the sessions

techLING+ will take place on October 4, 2018. There will be three one-and-a-half-hour workshops: two in the morning and one in the afternoon. Before starting the workshops, there will be a session to present the good practice projects previously submitted by the participants (the duration depending on the number of participants). This will be followed by comments and questions from the audience. At the end of the day, after the workshops, participants will receive tutorial support and, finally, there will be a brief presentation session of the final projects, which resulted from the tasks carried out in the workshops (the duration depending on the number of participants).

Please note that techLING+ will be in Portuguese and accreditation of this training session implies participation in all techLING+ activities as well as attendance of track 2 of the conference, on language teaching.

Best practice project award

The best practice project will receive an award. The best practice project award will be announced during the techLING+ closing session.

Registration fees

Without accreditation: €50

With accreditation*: €75

* Accreditation implies participation in all techLING+ activities as well as attendance of track 2 of the conference, on language teaching.

Please note:

  • the registration fee includes: coffee breaks, techLING+ materials, certificate issued by the Scientific-Pedagogical Council for Lifelong Training and publication (the latter only applies to proponents of good practice projects);
  • maximum number of participants accepted for techLING+ is 40, admitted by order or registration. After they have registered for the conference, participants will receive information regarding acceptance to the training session and further information;
